Spectra S2 Hospital Grade Double Electric Breast Pump – WOW!

Okay. It’s official. We really do have the BEST breast pumps!

We’re so pleased to introduce the Spectra S2 to Australia – the most sophisticated, effective and – stylish – breast pump to be introduced into Australia in years. Maybe ever? We love it, and you will too!

The S2 boasts so many great features and is designed to truly meet the needs of mums wanting to feel confident that they have an effective, powerful breast pump to support supply whilst also incorporating features to make life a little easier. Like all Spectra pumps, the S2 is a closed system – a physical barrier between the milk and the pump ensures hygiene and motor performance.

Let’s take a look at the new S2!

The S2 is intended to rival the Medela Symphony, and even surpass it with some of its innovative features designed to make life easier for mums.

The S2 is hospital grade – strong and efficient enough to support milk supply. In Korea, where the S2 was first released, each baby clinic now boasts its own S2, to help new mums in need of a great pump to assist with establishing breastfeeding.

With a maximum suction strength of 320mmHg and the ability to be used as a single or double pump, plus a host of additional features, the S2 is set to become the ultimate breast pump to support Aussie mums.

Completely flexible, touch button programming

Take a look below at the S2 pump’s digital controls. These allow you to set the pumping program to the speed and rhythm most effective for your body. The pump will start in ‘massage mode’, a short, shallow mode designed to stimulate your body’s letdown reflex (start the milk flowing) just like how your baby tells your body to start milkflow. The pump will then switch to expression mode, a deeper, slower pattern of suction which mimics how your baby nurses when the milk is flowing. For women who find it hard to get a letdown when pumping, this feature really helps – switch back and forth as needed.

S2 Digital programming

You can see that you can adjust both cycle (how often the pump ‘sucks’) and vacuum (the strength of the suction) easily, and the digital display allows you to see your program at a glance.

The pump also has a timer (you can see it at 00:29 in the image above) which will allow you to keep track of your pumping.

And loads of features to make life easier for you..

  • Absolutely quiet! – this pump is the quietest breast pump we have ever heard. You will wonder if it’s on or not!
  • Night light – isn’t this great? The S2 has a night light which will make life so much easier during night pumping sessions.
  • Stylish, portable design – Spectra have endeavoured to make the most portable and convenient hospital grade pump ever, with integrated handle and bottle stand to make life a little easier.
  • Double pumping – Slash pumping time and pump more efficiently by double pumping – the S2 comes as a double pump, with two full milk collection kits (breast shield, tubing & bottle) so you can pump from both breasts at once, as recommended by lactation consultants.

    Hi there!
I used my spectra 2 pump today for the first time- had great results the first 2-3 sessions (I am having to pump every 2 hours) and then it began to lose suction from there. The last pump, I had the vacuum all the way up to 12 and had decreased results.

    Any suggestions? Options?

How to reset the cycle settings? Mine is struck at what I used for first time and I can only take it down not up.

    • Spectra Team says:

Hi there SK, can you please tell us what settings you’re using? The cycle speed changes between 38 and 54, but when in massage mode the cycle speed is set to 70.

If you’d like to send us an email to support@spectra-baby.com.au, we will be able to send you our user manual with more info!

Sounds like your pump is in massage mode. Hit the button with the little squiggly lines on it to switch to expression mode. You will then be able to adjust your cycle speed between 38 and 54. Make sure you try different settings to work out what suits your body most 🙂

The ‘massage mode’ which is set to 70 is designed to mimic the fast shallow type of suction babies use to trigger milkflow – use this mode when you first start your pumping session. Hope this helps!

Hi, I am a bit concerned about the pump loosing suction after a while as mentioned by some people here. Wanted to have a look at the product manual for common troubleshooting issues and its assembly process before buying it. Is it possible to have a soft copy of the product manual please?

    • Spectra Team says:

      Hi there Hasnein,

Although a loss of suction on the actual breast pump motor is very rare, it’s normal to lose suction after a few weeks or month of using a breast pump (depending on how often you use it) as you need to replace the consumable parts! This is something a lot of people don’t realise initially. Always check over valves, membranes and tubing to check for wear & tear if there’s a loss of suction. Email us and we’ll send you the manual!

    • Spectra Team says:

      Hey Donna!

Losing suction generally means you need to replace some of your parts! The valves, membranes etc need replacing every few weeks/ months depending on how often you use your pump. Send us an email at support@spectra-baby.com.au and we’ll help you troubleshoot!

      • Spectra Team says:

Hey Donnna! We were hoping to get in touch with you to help troubleshoot, but we don’t seem to have an order for you using the email address you used to comment here. Can you please get back to us with your telephone number or your email address and we can reach out to you? Thanks!!

I have just started using my Spectra S2 breast pump and I’m running into a suction issue unless I hold the backflow filters. Am I doing something wrong?

  5. Alex Gomez says:

We have just discovered that your instructions are incorrect. the unit does NOT start in massage mode. You really need to change this and actually have an explanation of what cycles are available for which setting and also how many settings there are????

Very stressful, not what we needed on our first night back from the hospital.

    Thank you

    • Spectra Team says:

Oh no! We have let Spectra HQ know about the outdated info in their manual and we agree the manual provided with the pump is not good! The team here at Spectra Australia have developed our own S2 manual which includes an assembly guide, troubleshooting information and more. Please have read the S2 manual here

    Hi there,

What is the most effective way to express on the S2? I pump each side for 20min and express 30ml, should I be changing back to let down in the 20minutes more then just once?

    Thanks Mary

    • Spectra Baby says:

Hi Mary! Whats happening when you express – is the flow drying up quickly, or is just very slow? Are you double pumping? Have you tried varying the settings – changing the speed and suction can really help. Email us at support@spectra-baby.com.au and we can work together and hopefully get some better results

Using Spectra S2 breast pump for about 2 weeks. It has made my pumping job so much easier – firstly it is fast and only takes 1/3 of previous pumping time.

And the sucking is powerful yet very gentle on the breast and nipple.

    Some other features I like
Massage function – a must have in my every pumping session
cover over the shield – keep it from dust
Clear shield – better than my non transparent one – I can see through how much the milk being ejected
Bottle holder – wish we got two slots to hold the bottles as I always use it as double pump

The collection part can be with better quality but overall not much complaint.

It is worth the money spent.
