Bought these as i was excited of an easier system that would free hands more, but a number of features made it difficult to see any benefit. The limited flange sizes likely contributebto poor suction, I’m a 20mm so 24mm is too big. The cups are huge and therefore very bulky when stuffed in a bra. Additionally the design prevents you from using any heating pads when pumping, and I really wish the tubing was longer to compensate the higher mount. My biggest peeve was simply that it was difficult to see the flange to line it up and near impossible to see inside for actual flow or even just the collection of milk inside and out of the valve. Also with all the parts these have more pieces that clean between use
I’m glad I bought these on sale but disappointed as it was a waste despite the hype. Also, who in PR approved a review about someone saying they go grocery shopping with these on? On their phone right? It’s not so easy to strap yourself to a pump and carry it around to shop one-handed.

There is nothing more frustrating about pumping except how much you need to focus on keeping the shields in place. I have made phone calls, sent emails, paid bills and kept myself entertained whilst pumping today with my hands free shields. Yes they look a lot more complicated but they really aren’t once you get the idea of it. I’m really happy with them. I was worried with previous reviews of the product but I’m happy with them as usual with anything I’ve got from spectra!

Thank you for this review! I would love to get these, but I suspect the mixed reviews are due to the limited sizes available for the flanges. If the flange is too big, you won’t get the right suction and drainage. I am between a 20mm and 24mm, so 25mm or 28mm sound way too big for me :/ wish they would make smaller sizes. May I ask what flange size you usually use? My guess is that your size is in like with 25 or 28mm. Awesome these work well for you 🙂

I love this product and I have found that it works well for me. It is a little bit fiddly at first, but after using them with my S1 for the last six months, I rarely use my standard pump shields now. I get similar volumes with these compared to the standard pump shield. I like being able to wear them under my tops when I’m at work. I have had other hands-free systems before that were much more annoying. I have a fairly small chest, and acknowledge that it may not work as well for someone larger.

Waste of money- do not buy as this product is inefficient. If you are going to spend 20min pumping you want to get as much milk out as you can and this product just doesn’t do that. I threw mine out when spectra refused to exchange.

I was a bit hesitant to buy these after reading the reviews – but they’ve made pumping so much easier and more comfortable (a must when you’re doing it all day). I’ve found them easy to take apart and clean, too.

I love being able to go about my day without having to wait until I’ve finished pumping. However, the assembly of these cups is fiddly and frequently have to adjust them to get any suction. They don’t seem as well made as the other spectra products I have purchased.
I wouldn’t bother with them again.

I absolutely love these hands-free cups. I exclusively pump for my twins and these have made it SO much easier! I haven’t had any issues with suction or with a reduction in the volume pumped. I only use these cups now, I don’t use my standard flanges at all.
These cups are great for pumping while driving or while sitting in a cafe. They are noticeable under you too because of their size (have to be big to catch the milk) but I just make sure I have a loose jacket on or a scarf. I love not having to hide in a parent’s room to pump while I’m out!
Couple of drawbacks are that there are a lot of parts to clean and sterilise and getting the nipple in the right spot can be tricky sometimes (I just check that the milk is flowing a few minutes after I start pumping to know I’ve got it right). 100% worth the trade off of these drawbacks though!

I had been excited about using the hand free shield set but have tried for a couple of days I’m very disappointed. As another reviewer mentioned the suction power is dramatically reduced compared to the regular shield set and leads to less milk expressed or a much longer pumping time. I also have a bunch of little peeves with the design: no volume markings so I have to weight the milk collected to record a volume on it when freezing, all parts need to be handled to assemble and sit in, or easily come in contact with, the milk so sterilisation is compromised, milk doesn’t pour smoothly out of the cup into a bag or bottle for storage so it is easy to spill some, even little things like where the rubber but is position means that from above (ie how you’re positioned when using) you cant see the nipple to position properly or the mold collected to see how much is collected or whether you’re still expressing, if you express more than about 190ml the valve sits below the surface of the milk and milk flows back into all the parts when you take the shield off and you them need to drain it out of them to collect it.
Also definitely not “discreet” they stick our 7cm while on use.

Bitterly disappointed. Super fan of Spectra S1. However the hands free system drains 25% of what l normally pump using the standard flanges. Breasts still contain alot of milk after use. I would suggest do not purchase. Just use the standard flanges and buy a cheap sports bra and cut holes in each cup to hold the flange to make a handsfree system. Sorry ….not as amazing as Spectra products usually are.

I was looking into purchasing this as I have returned to work and still wanting to express but this comment has me worried regarding how it only drains like 25%

I am worried also after reading the reviews. I think I’ll have to pass on this product and I was really looking forward to purchasing it.

I was also disappointed in the hands free shields, they’re not suitable to fit into my standard bras or work clothes so can only use them with my maternity tank tops. I find the standard flanges sit and hold nicely for at work though.
